The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) held its 51st annual gala in the International Ballroom of the Washington Hilton in the US capital. This year’s region of honour was Lombardy, recognised for its role in industry, design, fashion and innovation and for its ties with the United States.

Guests included Italy’s ambassador to the United States, Marco Peronaci; US Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito; and former Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, along with members of the Italian government and diplomatic and cultural representatives. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni sent a video message about the contribution of Italian emigrants and their descendants to American life.

Foundation president Robert Allegrini and board chair John Calvelli highlighted NIAF’s work to keep the ties between the Italian American community and Italy alive.
