Italy expects 141 million tourist arrivals in 2026, with more visits outside summer
A Demoskopika projection forecasts arrivals up 2.1% and spending of up to €132.7 billion.
Italy is set to end 2026 with 141.2 million tourist arrivals, 2.1% more than the previous year, according to a projection by research institute Demoskopika published by Fortune Italia. Overnight stays would reach about 479 million (+0.4%), and tourist spending could hit €132.7 billion, up 4%, if the economic outlook stays stable.
Foreign visitors remain the engine: they would exceed 76 million arrivals and account for more than 55% of overnight stays. Domestic tourism would contribute about 64.8 million arrivals.
The study also points to a shift in the calendar: June to September would fall to 56.9% of overnight stays, while March to May and October to November would rise to 29.4%. For anyone planning a trip to Italy, the shoulder season is gaining ground on the peak months.
